The Never Ending Quest - Episode 89342

Lilith

That shouted protest from Principal Snyder of ALL people, draws a round of silence in everyone present except for Setsuna.

”Well, that was unexpected,” Rei muttered to herself before turning towards Prince Endymion. “Prince, mind if you go over there and explain to our trollish school principal what we are doing here besides just chatting it up, please? I’d rather that than him than him keep on shouting into the room and maybe interrupting your wife at a critical juncture.”

Said prince of Earth of the Silver Millenium nods slightly to do just that, somewhat surprised that he’d be tapped to do something (anything) of importance by those of the female gender.

Myself, I think that while empowered females is a good thing I believe that this version of Sailor Moon that he’d haled from just went WAY too far. In some of those worlds a man is almost a second class citizen. Something that Setsuna is going to change if she has any say in the matter.

Definitely said that what with the Prince actually having as much magical power as a regular senshi but not being able to fully get proper training to utilize it for political reasons was GOING to change ASAP as soon as this quest was don.

Armor piercing roses are nice and all that, even armor piercing roses that can cut through tank (or power) armor materials, but while such attacks are not powerful enough to make the matriarchy not feel threatened they just aren’t going to cut it for where we’re going to be going here in a moment. Or so a little vampire slayer turned angel tells us, anyway.

Hope that little practice session we had drilled him with the basics of phasor fire will pan out.

Right now, though, he’s helping us by keeping the Principal from interrupting us more.

Well, anyway… Pardon the web-links masquerading as explanations and such coming up here reader, whoever you may be out there whenever and however this stuff gets posted without a so much as “by my leave”. I don’t hold it against you for you probably . . . .Ah never mind.

A lot of information and questions are asked. However, that in itself would probably take up to twenty or thirty page of text alone to fully recount it. Instead, let us concentrate on the basic which can be broken own this way. Or should I say, the “basics” of the basics are broken down here. Not all the personal information shall be revealed immediately, but just enough will be revealed (names and basic bios) for now:

Names were exchanged and stories told-

Rei’s group-

They had been tapped by their bosses, the Rules and Agents (personification of certain forces of nature and probably the closest we shall ever see to something approaching what some would/ could call divinity . . .if that title didn’t already belong to THEIR bosses, the “Higher Ups”) to basically “clean up” the mess that Setsuna Selene made a mess of things during a bout of madness brought on by . . .godlike powers too much for her to handle . . .brought an Earth from the Buffyverse into the Champion’s homespace.

It worked, but the Hellmouth is still acting like a portal of sorts. However, it no longer connects with Hell dimensions, but a vast network of VERY incompatible realities. If not closed correctly by the group, the Hellmouth will close . . .with a violent explosion. The Hellmouth will blow sky high with the power of a nuke, and wiping the town of Sunnyvale off the map.

Rei and the group being who they are—heroic types—would rather not see this happen, thanks. So would the Rules and Agents, frankly but they’re only able to send in the Champions.

Inter-Office politics! Gotta hate them…

The groups composition:

Rei Quatermain Takahashi: http:/ / www.sir -toby.com/ ~msg/ CharacterBios / Rei.htm

Fred Takahashi: what could be considered your typical white knight in shining armor who’d been tasked by his king to slay a dragon in your standard fantasy setting. However, beside the fact that Fred Takahashi (then Fred D’Honaire ) haled from people who looked basically Japanese (odd inversion of East and West on that world), he’d been something of an arrogant chap who’d put personal honor and family honor above certain ideals he shouldn’t have and slew his sister (who’d sworn herself to the very Dragon he’d been tasked to slay).

Cursed by what eventually turned out to be a malicious ROB (Random Omnipotent Being, a Trollish Game 3 Author we’ll call Snorbin) with immortality, he eventually found his way out of the caverns and magically found himself on an Earth that eventually turns out to be the Earth of Evangelion (anime TV series).

Trying to make amends for his sins, he eventually tries to help the young woman known nowadays as Rei Takahashi to break the chains of slavery that bound her to one Gendo Ikari.

Little did he realize that eventually not only would Rei be free, but eventually she’d come back years later and . . .land him as her husband.

Old chap never stood a chance…

Yukiko Quatermain: http:/ / en.wiki pedia .org/ wiki/ Rei _ Ayanami#Rebuild _ of _ Evangelion Except she got snatched up by Setsuna during that episode where her EVA had been going berserk during a Sycnhoronization test which happened BEFORE the movie.

Still is learning the ins and outs of being . . .a whole person (her other half that had been sucked into her EVA got slapped back together into a complete whole), but is doing pretty well all considered….

Setsuna Selene: started life out as Sailor Pluto (http:/ / en .wiki pedia . org/ wiki / Sailor _ Pluto) but after losing a tangle with one Randal Flagg (http:/ / en. wiki pedia. org/ wiki / Randal _ Flagg) got cast into a “pool of chaos” which gave her eventually the power of a almost omnipotent goddess, but also played a large part to having driven her violently insane (and thus a very useful tool in spreading misery and chaos).

The fact that in the course of her re-emergence into the “real” world she found herself having been living eight other separate lives as the various planetary Sailor Scouts (http:/ / en. wiki pedia. org/ wik i/ Sailo r _ Scouts, including Sailor Moon ) and suddenly getting all THAT thrown into one mind and one body did nothing for her sanity, either.

Now cured and inducted (rather than live with the idea of what she’d done and not being stripped of ALL her power as a Sailor Senshi), she now is a Champion for the Rules and Agents. Also, being that returning to her old life as Sailor Pluto didn’t quiet appeal (and would leave the Moon Kingdom, the only one to have survived the war with Queen Beryl and Metalia) so she opted in staying in the role/ life of Sailor Moon/ Princess Serenity.

Hey, at least while there are elements of Sailor Moon in her personality, Setsuna here is her own person and acts much more mature than that . . .romantic ditz Usagi. That and her personality is like her old Sailor Pluto persona . . .just more empathic and warm.

Prince Endymion : http:/ / en.wiki pedia .org/ wiki/ Prince _ Endymion#Prince _ Endymion

Well, in addition to all that since he’s royalty he did have power and privilege in a decidedly matriarchal regime. Just not as much power as what a princess would enjoy. Nice enough guy though. Just cannot believe how . . .lame his reincarnations become later, in those other timelines. Seriously, it seems like it is almost child’s play for an opponent to dominate him mentally and possess him. A person could sneeze and poor ol’ “Tuxedo Mask” was under another sway (again).

Has made it a point to set up mandatory training sessions to beef up the poor guy’s mental shields.

The Scooby Gang (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)-

As far as them, their lives had been following the same course as which had been laid out as seen on TV, right up until somewhat after the episode called "The Gift". Yes, that one episode where Buffy Summers had to leap through a magical portal to close it (and save the world . . .AGAIN) and lost her life in the process.

However, instead of waiting month afterwards for Willow to find a magical item online that would revive Buffy (much against her will) the poor (and perhaps somewhat foolish) witch tried to seek out powerful spirits to accomplish the same thing. This wouldn't have worked. Fine and well except at around that time Setsuna (during her madness and godlike power period) swept Willow and the world into a place where Willow inadvertently contact while on her spirit quest . . .a 40K chaos god. THAT almost ended in disaster except for the fact that Buffy (now a fully vested angel) came in and save Willow's bacon.

Good and well, except that one particular chaos mage named Ethan Rayne witnessed from afar (astrally) what Willow had been trying to contacted and went into a fully blown panic, believing that sheer disaster and chaos (of a kind that HE couldn't and didn't want to see unleashed . . .uh, he worshipped a much less evil and destructive variant of chaos) made a few powerful deals and wishes and . . .time kind of got twisted back upon itself. Or rather things got set back to APPEAR so (kinda like that matter collapser thingie as seen in "Galaxy Quest", rearranging matter in such a way to make it appear time had reversed). Whatever exactly Ethan did (a "wish" granted by some dark entity or some such), Rei's group suddenly had found themselves smack dab in the middle of the "Halloween" episode. You know, the one where Ethan Rayne cursed a bunch of costumes to turn their wearers into the characters they dressed up as? Well, since at least the whole town (if not the world) seemed to have at least temporarily forgotten what had happened that day of Halloween and everything past it Rei and friends found them watching events repeat themselves and couldn't safely intervene (the Mayor had apparently been keeping Rayne under surveylance for whatever reason and so Rei's group couldn't do anything drastic without prematurely tipping their hand).

Well, as we know things went a bit differently this time around. Willow got transformed (permanently) into a drow elf female who couldn't EVER again access her style of witchy magic (as Ethan hoped and prayed), thus sealing her off from being any further danger according to Rayne. However, THIS time around a lot of OTHER things happened as well. Like a full blown battle between a comic book character from Iron Man and a Warhammer 40K Primarch.

Was a war zone before things got back under control, folks. Lots of dead. Lots of homeless. A disaster of the first order.

Right now the Scoobies are going to be guarding this side of the Hellmouth while Rei's gang are mucking about on the other sides of it in their attempt to eventually cLOSE the Hellmouth without it blowing up like an atomic bomb . . .or worse.

Buffy Summers: http:/ / en.wiki pedia .org/ wiki/ Buffy _ Summers

Except for the fact that unlike her TV counterpart during events brought about by her friend Willow five months after “The Gift” (http:/ / en.wiki pedia .org/ wiki/ The _ Gift _ (Buffy _ the _ Vampire _ Slayer)) as seen in "Bargaining" (http:/ / en.wiki pedia .org/ wiki/ Bargaining _ (Buffy _ the _ Vampire _ Slayer)) through a magical item: an item found and bought by her friend from eBay of all places — the last Urn of Osiris. No, instead of that this Buffy came back to Earth (under disguise) as a fully invested warrior Angel!

Has to do with something about how Buffy’s Earth having been physically and magically DRAGGED into a new universe by the then insane and godlike Setsuna. This world was no longer under the dominion of the Powers that Be as seen in the show, and by extension it also meant . . .Buffy the Vampire slayer wasn’t going to be brought back against her will no matter what those Powers wished aside.

But Buffy did come back for Willows sake…

She came back to make sure that Willow didn’t go “Darkside” and to help guard the Hellmouth while the Champions like Rei and gang fix the mess that Setsuna has made of things here in town during her tenure as a mad “goddess”….

Willow Danielle Rosenberg- http:/ / en.wiki pedia .org/ wiki/ Willow _ Rosenberg

Like her TV counterpart, Willow had been a powerful magic user in the making. That changed recently, however, with her *permanent* transformation into a drow elf female (ala AD&D).

It was all tied into an ill advised scheme that Willow had concocted after her friend Buffy had died. Sure to herself that Buffy’s soul had been sucked into a hell dimension—an understandable assumption considering that Angel’s soul (http:/ / en.wiki pedia .org/ wiki/ Angel _ (Buffy _ the _ Vampire _ Slayer)) got sucked into one under similar circumstances—she went about trying to find a way to return her to life. Commendable except for the fact that Buffy’s soul had made it’s way to Heaven (or a reasonable facsimile) and Willow had not apparently even attempted to confirm Buffy’s true “here after” resting place.

Further complicating factor in this Willow’s tale was that instead of trying to use that mystical urn her friend would have eventually found on Ebay, she opted on striking out earlier in her resurrection attempts by trying to bargain for power through some higher powered spirit or whatnot.

Unfortunately, due to in part due to her inexperience and . . .naïveté. Maybe she had blinders on. Maybe she was just too inexperienced and didn’t see the warning signs. Maybe the spellwork she used was inferior and blocked her from seeing what powerful godlike entity she actually had been entreating: Slaanish of Warhammer 40k! (http:/ / en.wiki pedia .org/ wiki/ Slaanesh)

. . .

It was a brassy ass MIRACLE that Willow’s very soul hadn’t been consumed by that ravenous freak of nature, much less having not been used as some kind of bridgehead to somehow try to slip into the Buffyverse. The fact that her magic potential had been stripped from her by her becoming a drow elf woman (end result of a malicious plot by one Ethan Rayne) . . .was a small price to pay indeed.

Then again, that miracle Willow has to thank for her continued existence had been none other than Buffy herself (as the angel still called herself/ itself that despite her ascension).

That and a little bit of help (albeit rather prickly) from Rei and the gang near the end…

Rupert Giles-http:/ / en.wiki pedia .org/ wiki/ Rupert _ Giles

Nice enough guy as seen in the TV show, but we all do recall the time he called himself Ripper in his youth, eh? No? Well, that’s what the links for: to give you a clue to his character and all that beyond being “Buffy’s Watcher”.

Like the rest of the Scooby Gang, got caught up in things with Rei’s group.

Xander Harris-http:/ / en.wiki pedia .org/ wiki/ Xander _ Harris

Just like his TV counterpart. Had been more than a bit aggrieved initially at the rough intervention tatics that Rei and friends utilized on Willow, but when all facts came to light (that Willow’s very future as a independent entity in this life and the afterlife), he’s . . .not as angry as before, anyway.

Now, his lingering anger is directed mostly at Rei if nothing else….

  1. And now to the Doctor's group (both present and missing in action)...
