Astra's chains dissolved to dust! Astra was free! Astra was... falling!
She had
been hanging from the chains, and now that they were no longer there, she
fell to her feet, then to her knees.
Astra tried to put her now-free arms in front of her to support her weight, but she couldn't. She fell flat on her face, and lay there, against the cold, hard ground, completely naked, completely exhausted. She tried to get back up, but it was no use. Every part of her body, even the muscles that weren't required to get up, had started aching horribly. She couldn't move, and there were parts of her bodies that she couldn't feel. It was then that a horrible realization came upon her. "I'm dieing." she said feeblely. "What was that?" asked Ingrid. "I'm dieing!" Astra croaked. "Ah, yes. That is in accordance with the symptoms on page fourteen hundred and... but what am I saying? Fred, find a small, yellow bottle, quick!" Astra heard the sound of bottles being moved. Presumably, Fred was rummaging through Ingrid's pack. But she couldn't think of that. She couldn't think of anything. It was as if her brain had been switched off, except for two words. "I... I'm... d... di... die..." "Astra, you need stop thinking of that! If you focus on dieing, you will die. Focus on living!" "Here's the bottle!" called out Fred. "Ah, very well. Astra, drink this." Ingrid held up Astra's head, and force-fed her the liquid. Astra had no idea what it tasted like, her taste buds seemed to have switched off as well. She didn't realize she had swallowed it, until she felt the substance trickling down her throat. Ingrid emptied the whole bottle into her. "There, that should be enough. Now all we can do is wait for it to take effect." "Forgive me for asking," said Fred, "but, what is that thing?"
