The raven circled lower and lower, then landed a short distance away. An
instant later, and where it had been stood a quite handsome but rather
cruel-looking man in late middle age. He was dressed all in black.
"I warned you to leave," he said to Fred. "Yes, but because of Gregor. But he says that it was not he who was responsible for my men vanishing, but you. You cannot both be telling the truth. At the moment I am inclined to believe Gregor." "Oh you are, are you? How about Yaivaine? Do you believe her?" "She's already admitted that much of what she originally told me was untrue. In fact about the only true thing she told me was that her unborn baby is Gregor's." Unexpectedly, Belboz burst into raucous laughter. "She told you that, did she? No doubt Gregor believes that too. In actual fact, the baby is mine." "What!" Gregor looked stricken. "Yaivaine, that's not true, is it?"
