The Emperor Protects so why NOT put on a show for Him?!

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 87802

Lilith

"They're. . .adorable." The High Lord of Terra whispered in a slightly slurred voice, looking more than a bit shaky on his feet after having the Emperor himself do a VERY quick Psyker scan on him. A Psyker scan that had been relatively mild to what had went and leveled his compatriots over yonder, laid out on the floor. Of all of the High Lords of Terra, only the Grand Master of the . . .Officio Assassinorum was found not wanting. Meaning of all these bozos here, tall dark and creepy actually did his job over the years well enough for the Emperor over behind me to not put out like a light!!

The others? Those here vice whose who are still going to need to show up (and be judged)? Well, they're going to not be KILLED for their incompetence and shortcomings, but being that Hard Time is a whole different and steeper affair than even what the MIlitary does (Hard Time being REALLY hard), they're going to wish they were dead. Once in a while, anyway. For a LONG time...

Not my problem and nothing I can really do much about. Not my place...

And as for creepy chap who’s name I didn’t catch?! The Head assassin of the Imperium who just happened to find the tykes I’m displaying at this impromptu dog and pony show so adorable? Why exactly the dog and pony show?

Why am I partaking in said pony show and letting this creep get anywhere near Mira (in my newest sister's arms) and Asuka? I mean he may be somewhat rattled still by having his memory banks shuffled by the Emperor himself still to be overlooking himself (more on that in a bit), but then again this guy KILLS people dead for a living….

No, that’s entirely unfair there. It is not like my family back on Terra Prime did not have more than it’s fair share of . . .operatives (do remember what Auntie Inquirer and Uncle Probe’s professions were in the Military during that Enemy/Alliance war). Maybe this man went more for counter-assassination than assassination. Or maybe with 40K being the “grim and dark” setting it is assassins are a bloody necessity for the well to do and powerful.

Look, for the I and my sisters happen to trust the Emperor because Horus over yonder trusts him. What Rei saw in Horus' brain went a long way at convincing us that while the Emperor might be willing to go to great violent lengths to get what he wants, what he wants is what is best for the Imperium (or more like humanity push comes to shove). Again, more in that in a bit.

Besides, it isn't like while he's being a very good host--and pretty much being the only thing in this God forsaken place preventing us getting a bolter round to the face for some things we'd gone and said in insults to the lug by his worshipful followers--we should be too adverse to play a part in some court politics of sorts.

Namely, playing into just HOW best to bring some much needed assets to the table in some future, inevitable battles with the 'Nids.

Namely, a little "toy" I and the others who don't hale from the Moon Kingdom happen to be carrying around for self defense purposes

"ZAP!" goes the personal force screen that our head assasin just accidentally touched while trying to coddle the child I am carrying. Which by the way did a WONDERFUL job at knocking said creepy High Lord/Master Assasin flat on his ass in surprise.

"The Emperor said something about looking but not touching," I say in a soft voice in way of repremend at the unasked question on said High Lord of Terra's lips.

. . .

What? Oh, while we had decided in going into Sunnyvale in a low keyed manner (i.e. opted in not donning our "special" armor despite vampires), we still had some kind of ace up our sleave.

Might mean you're not taken as seriously as a fully power armoured chap, but it serves pretty well all the same.

Personal force screens are no longer as rare and expensive as they'd been back when the Military had come down to the lands of Terra Prime and THIS particular model I am wearing? Good enough to stop a few bolter rounds, at least and not be conspicious.

  1. . . .until somebody bumps into the field, anyway...
