"Fred," Chelsea finally speaks. "You told me this thirty minutes ago!" After an uncomfortable pause, Fred responds: "Did I?" Chelsea sees the clearly pained look on a crestfallen Fred's face, while realizing that she now needs to breach an uncomfortable subject that had been brought up numerous times since Fred was placed in Chelsea's classroom. "Fred, not to alarm you, but there's been some discussion in the office about your memory issues since you joined my class. You might be referred to the school counselor, Ms. Gailard, so we can get to the bottom of this and get you the help that you need. I know you're trying hard, and doing the best you can, but repeating topics every thirty minutes is a distressing sign for all of us." Fred nervously looks around the room. He is of the mindset that he simultaneously realizes that he may have mental issues, but still in complete denial about it after an authority figure has told him that he needs immediate help. Call it pride, or call it denial, but he was at a crossroads here. After an agonizingly long silence, Fred finally speaks:
