After a major reality shift such as this, things take a little time to
settle down. It is a bit like aftershocks after an earthquake. For the
next couple of minutes, Astra changes between human and duck, as well as
a range of intermediate forms, with bewildering frequency. She seems
unaware of any of the changes.
When her form eventually seems to have stabilised, Fred reflects that it could have been worse. Astra has a duck's bill, and apart from her face she is mostly covered in white feathers. Also her arms have become wings, her legs are much shorter and end in duck's feet, and her backside protrudes out about a foot behind her and ends in a tail of fluffy feathers. But apart from those changes her body is still humanoid. The shortening of her legs means that she is now five feet three inches tall rather than six feet. When she talks she sounds a little like Donald Duxk. "You say that you've always been like this?" Fred can't help being curious. "Of course. What would you expect from someone coming from the land of Aqualaria? The 'aqua' in the name surely gives it away." "So all your people are like this?" "Naturally. Did you think that I was some sort of freak?" "Of course not." Fred does not want to hurt Astra's feelings.
