Lunar Excursion

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 8747

Doctor Who looked at the Doctor. "Hmm," he said. "Actually, that might work, mightn't it?"

"Yes," answered his counterpart, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "It'd certainly be much safer than trying to rematerialize around it."

"Of course, we'd have to adjust the interfacial stability circuits..." Doctor Who broke off, as he saw that the Doctor was already making the necessary adjustments. "There!" the other replied. "Yes, I think that should work, indeed. What a good idea. Don't know why I didn't think of it!"

"Actually," put in Betty (the brown-haired one), "I think you did think of it. Only you hadn't yet." They both cast her a glance of mingled bemusement and annoyance, and she shut up. But Ragan (as the red-headed Betty was now calling herself) spoke up. "Wouldn't it be easier to just put on some spacesuits and walk over there?"

The Doctors looked surprised at that. The Doctor said, "Well, yes, that's a thought, too. I'm sure I have a spacesuit around here somewhere." He looked around vaguely, as if expecting said spacesuit to suddenly appear in the console room.

"Uh, I dunno," said Betty. "Personally, I don't think I'd care to trust myself to some spacesuit the Doctor's had sitting around in a closet somewhere collecting dust for centuries." She looked at the Doctors. "No offense."

"Well," said Inquirer, "does that mean we're going with my plan, then?" In response, the Doctor simply fiddled with some more controls, then activated the scanner screen. A glowing tube of forcefield was visible, stretching out across the lunar surface and engulfing the Master's TARDIS. The Doctors grinned at each other.

"Right," said Doctor Who. "I'll just pop over and have a look, shall I?"

"I'll come with you!" shouted Ragan. Inquirer didn't even bother saying anything, but simply stood by him, obviously prepared to follow. "Fine," he said. "You two can come along. The rest of you stay here." There were several sounds of protest, particularly from Betty (who muttered that she didn't want to be a stay-in-the-TARDIS kind of companion) and from Sigin (who seemed to have been looking forward to seeing the moon firsthand). But the Doctor gave them all a stern look, and they stayed put as he opened the TARDIS doors and departed, Ragan and Inquirer at his heels.

  1. And so they began their walk across the lunar surface...
