It wasn't New Mexico. In fact it seemed it wasn't anywhere. Outside the TARDIS, as revealed by its viewscreens and sensors, was absolute nothingness. Not even a solitary gas molecule could be detected. The Master's grin had disappeared, and he looked worried. The Doctor looked stern. "Well, do you know what went wrong?" he asked. The Master removed the panel again and looked at his handiwork.

  1. "No," he confessed. "It SHOULD have worked."
  2. "Ah, one connection was not made properly," he said, making an adjustment. "Now try."
  3. At that moment, the cloister bell - which had stopped a little earlier - began to ring again.
