Fred wiped the blood from his ear and neck with his handkerchief, then
arranged himself for another try at the sword tile. This time he stood to
one side, in case the trap was reset. In one hand he held his trusty
sword, in the other one of the rusty blades that had flown from the tile
the first time. Fred reached around and pressed the sword tile with the tip of his sword, then quickly pulled his sword arm clear. The tile snapped open as before and once again, two blades shot from the wall, but this time, before the tile could snap shut again, Fred jammed the blade in his left hand in the way. As the tile snapped closed on the blade, Fred let go. For a moment he thought he had done it, but then the blade snapped in two with a loud twang and the half still sticking out of the wall spun wildly past Fred's face, leaving a fine scratch on his cheek.
