Uhura Has Second Thoughts

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 86803

Uhura's first impulse was to try to find a way to talk to Koloth. After all. communications were her speciality. He could be a valuable ally, and perhaps he would know more about what the parasites intended than she and her allies did.

But there were several formidable difficulties. Naturally the mutineers had taken her personal communicator from her when they had captured her. So she would need to find another way to patch into the ship's comms network. The real "show-stopper" was at the other end, though. If Koloth was on the run somewhere on his ship, then he was hardly going to be sitting at a comms station. So the only way of contacting him would be via his own personal communicator, assuming that he had it on him. She had no idea how she could persuade the Klingon ship's comms system to patch her through to him. The internal details of their ships' comms systems was naturally not information that the Klingons were willing to share with outsiders. Even supposing she managed to get through to him, if he was hiding somewhere where he needed to keep quiet to avoid detection, he might not be able to respond. In fact, if his communicator emitted an audible tone to alert the user that there was an incoming message - which was quite likely - then that might be enough to compromise him.

She decided that the Klingon involvement was so important that she had to tell Spock about it as soon as possible. But before she could make a move, the ship began vibrating. Perhaps it was under tow, Connors having decided that she could waste no more time in trying to repair Scotty's sabotage of the warp drive? Was it possible to tow a ship at warp speeds, or would they be limited to impulse? Uhura didn't know. The former seemed unlikely, but if it was the latter, then why bother if the ship still had impulse drive available? Was it the Klingon ship that was towing them, or the mysterious third ship? Perhaps that didn't much matter.

  1. Uhura decided that she would still try to find Spock. If he was no longer at the science lab, then would he have tried to return to the shuttle? She tried to recall precisely what he had said.
  2. The vibration became worse. It was too severe to be caused by being towed, she realised. Was it more of Scotty's sabotage, perhaps this time affecting the impulse engines?
  3. Just then, she felt weak for a moment. Of course the parasite would be adding to her need for food, and she hadn't eaten for some time. Her uniform felt a bit tight and, looking down at herself, she saw that her belly now visibly bulged a little.
