The ornately uniformed Captain Fogeno ceased his pacing, and put his
telescope to his eye. Then he cursed, and switched it to the one that
didn't have a black patch over it. Why did he keep on making that stupid
mistake? Perhaps because there wasn't really anything wrong with the
patched eye. He had adopted the patch because all the best slaver
captains seemed to have one. He soon had found that it was a big help in
inspiring awe in his crew and captives.
And he currently had a lot of captives aboard, brought back by the party he had sent ashore in the ship's longboat to search the island. The women should fetch excellent prices at the slave market, even the one who wasn't quite as pretty as all the others (he had noticed that unlike them she seemed to have a brain in her head). However he wasn't too impressed by the one male among the group, who claimed to be an Allarian lord. Two men had been left behind to search the remarkable palace which had drawn his attention to the island in the first place. Once he saw them come out onto the beach with any further prisoners they had taken, he would send the boat back for them. Two people emerged from the palace onto the beach. They clearly weren't his two sailors, of whom there was no sign. That was puzzling. He adjusted the focus on the telescope. It was the finest that Hespan could manufacture, but the mate had been using it, and only after he had twiddled the appropriate knob was he able to get a clear view. One of the figures on the beach was a man, the other a woman who had a mane of red hair and an improbably large bosom. She appeared to be wearing a nightie and slippers, which was odd. She should fetch a high price when auctioned off. Surrounding the pair were a number of what appeared to be monkeys. To his surprise, the man and woman proceeded to have a long kiss.
