Astra swam with a powerful butterfly stroke. Training could get boring
sometimes, but she knew that she couldn't afford to skimp on it if she
wanted to fulfil her dream of winning the 200 metres butterfly gold at
the next Olympics. Perhaps the worst part was hacing to get up at 5:30
each morning in order to have the pool to herself for an hour before it
opened to the public.
Having completed four lengths of the 50 metre pool, for the third time that morning, she climbed out. As always at the end of a training session, her limbs were aching, her chest heaving and her lungs burning. Her trainer looked up from his stopwatch. "That was the slowest of the three. 2:05.7." Astra did a quick calculation. "Still - puff - only about 1.4 seconds - puff- outside the - puff - Olympic record." Having finished the session, she pulled off her bathing cap and let her long red hair hang free. "Yeah, not too bad. One thing before you go and change. I've been contacted by Sports Illustrated. They'd like to take some photos of you for their annual swimwear issue. How do you feel about it?"
