A thing about certain winged women young magical girls should know...

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 84388

Setsuna

"Rei and the sisters I believe I could maybe talk them into it if you feel not like approaching them directly . . .or speak with Fred Takahashi beforehand." Amanda goes onto say, after seeing the disappointment I apparently failed to hide on my face.

Strange. I recall having better control of showing my true feelings than this... Now I feel myself blinking in surprise here where as before I know I failed to hide my disappointment.

I had been sooo hoping to get her help here...

But what is REALLY strange is the thought of...

"But I thought they hated me and the Sailor Scouts!" I find myself protesting.

I mean, time and time again I heard nothing but disparing words against the story that reflected my life (new or old)! Not like she shouted it to the high heavens whenever I was watching her through the Time Gates, but enough was said by her and her sisters...

What gives here?

"Setsuna . . .Rei's an 'old school' artist," Amanda explains, smiling slightly as she explains. "After so long living in a desert of unimaginativeness she found a positive LOVE for drawing and painting. An outlet for her newfound artistic side that bloomed soon after getting . . .her new family and such."

Lilith and Reika developed their own expressions of creative outlets, I find out later and those outlets led to certain . . .issues with the Sailor Moon stories. But that's by the by.

"She's very good at what she does but I fear that because she's an artist she has developed a certain taste for artistic drawing styles," Amanda continues. "And let us just say that as an artist she knows what she likes in art and what she does not like.

"She doesn't like the style you and your fellow senshi were drawn in both the anime and manga and . . .she was not exactly sure of what to make of your character in both. I mean the portrayal of your old self back when you were just 'Sailor Pluto' and that Big Freeze issue."

"Excuse me?" I say slowly, staring at Amanda.

She has . . .got to be kidding me, right? Right?!

Good gods, does she actually believe that I and any of the other Sailor Senshi would WANT so many death on our hands from that mini- ice age Earth was going to go through in the early 21rst cetury? That if there had been SOME way to somehow avoid the Sun from going dim and diminishing the sunlight it put upon Earth that I would have in a heartbeat?!

I mean when the Moon Kingdom fell it wasn't like there was enough left behind of civlization to put up the research and resources to head OFF that, right?!

Not like we are going to . . .plan on taking over the world after every possible opposition got wiped out by that disaster, intentionally. Not like that at ALL!

Amanda

"The manga and anime were remarkably silent about the events that lead up to the Great Freeze you see," I rushes to add, seeing that Setsuna's slowly coming to a boil here. "While it never was stated that nothing was ever tried to prevent it, nothing is said about what was and what was NOT done.

"Point in fact almost nothing at all was said about it," I finish up, relaxing a little bit as I see she sees the implications.

It is wide OPEN in what that meant, that ommission.

"Nothing at all?" Setsuna blinks. "Surely the anime or manga would show all the time I fretted in searching, thirsting for other options than letting the Big Freeze . . .almost nothing?"

Given the wide margin of implications that meant meant that the while the creators of the fictional story of Sailor Moon meant for their heroines to be the heroes of the piece did not mean it couldn't have been otherwise, in the end.

"So it could have been as benign as making the best of bad choices," Setsuna says softly to herself, looking it all over for what it could have meant for us Champions being dropped into the middle of a 'situation'. "Which it was...."

We'd done our own research through various . . .means after the chaotic battle we'd fought to look into this issue ourselves. We had learned through our (secretive) efforts that like in the story the Moon Kingdom (and et al) was as advertised. It was a matriarchy cum caste class society where the warrior women kind of . . .are in charge, with the kingdom of Terra/Earth being the glaring exception to the rule.

That last part is something of the glaring difference between the fiction and the reality, as it were. In the fiction one gets the impression of everything in some of the more. . .foo foo fluff stuff that everything has a fairy tale quality to it. Perfection upon perfection. A utopia.

Not so much as that here and now in this place. Queen Serenity had been something of a maverick, moving society towards gender equality where males would no longer be seen as second class citizens. No longer inferior to females. The marriage between the Moon Kingdom (a matriarchy) and the Earth Kingdom (a monarchy) had been yet another step in a long campaign.

The tensions and resentments that one Dark Queen took advantage of (in addition to that intelligence windfall of capturing and brainwashing those Earth Generals of the Prince) had/would have played right into the downfall of the Moon Kingdom. Basically, of ALL of civilization in this solar system. The Moon Kingdom would have defeated Beryl in the original run of things, but it would be pyhric.

"Too true that," I agree. "You’re an honorable woman who lived by a code and law."

Very harsh codes and laws but that’s my opinion and that had been in another lifetime. She’s different now. Now she’s still a Senshi. Still a ‘Pretty Warrior’ of love and justice, but not of Pluto. But of the Moon.

And of a world which did NOT have the Fall of her beloved Moon Kingdom.

Bottom line? This woman here is not some kind of fanatical madwoman, bent on bringing about her vision of utopia through the deaths of billions of human beings. The "Crystal Tokyo" gambit had been a last ditch/doomsday plan no longer needed in this (and other) realities where the various Sailor Scouts haled from. The Moon Kingdom here was going to step up it efforts now to establish it’s ‘Sailor Sol’ program to fix it’s impending ‘cool Sun/Big Ice’ problem here . . .and do the same for those other realities who’s Sailor Scouts got dragged into this mess before they experienced their own version of an Ice Age.

. . .

Nice how the other Sailor Scouts swore fealty to Queen Serenity here. Save a lot of possible headaches for any missions of mercy and such.

Anyway, I advise her to bring that up in her impending conversation with Rei (who’s probably still the ringleader of her group) and also with Fred Takahashi (if she so feels like covering that angle).

"And if nothing else I dare say that just speaking with you will dispel any lingering doubts about you possibly being a schemer hiding behind the ’Greater Good’ while actually advancing your own agendas" I go onto say in closing.

"You’ve changed very much away from who and what you were before now I can tell." I finish. "Getting reincarnated tends to do that to a person. I should know."

BOY should I know that! I mean I have seen in person what kind of person I might have been like back before becoming 'Rei Ayanami' (ala Rei I). Now, whether or not I was either a brilliant but somewhat naive woman or a woman suffering from something of a messiah complex before getting sucked into EVA Unit 01 really doesn't matter. There were TONS of differnces in personality between myself and those Yuis I met along the way with that weird Validation Quest that Rei Quatermain went through.

I wasn't the same person. Heck, I wasn't even an adult any more. I was a four year old girl! That change was only due to me being "reincarnated" one time. Creator knows how much Rei and her sisters changed after their first Rei bodies got killed...

And poor Setsuna went through the process eight times, what with her various incarnations as other Sailor Scouts. And don't give me that nonsense about her personality going back to true/orignal form near the end there. I have seen the various Sailor Plutos (native and those dragged her from elsewhere) and while she might act somewhat like them (and maybe her old self) . . .she's more alive and empathic. Caring.

And definitely carries herself more like a teenager (which she is) than anyone who's lived for ten thousand years. Definitely not that.

More like she's going to become something/someone else in the long run, but in a good way.

Still see little hints of her other selves in there, from what I've seen of her during our talks. Something of a technophile from her time as Sailor Mercury. A martial arts enthusiast of sorts from her time as Sailor Jupiter. Definitely shows signs of being 'pro-Shinto' from her time as Sailor Mars (who'd been a Shinto Shrine Maiden/Miko in her civilian identity).

And our young woman here is . . .very much of a romantic I see from that dreamy look she gets sometimes when we spoke of her new hubby here. Nice!

  1. And definitely nothing like that ditz Usagi (the 'original' Sailor Moon) . . .though I so do see she wears her heart on her sleeve more than she'd like.
