"OK," said Stacy, "so what about the other two subjects?" Campbell referred to his notebook. "Two males, Ricardo Gonzales and Peter Brown, aged thirty-six and fifty-three. In both cases they were taken to the doctor by their wives within the last week or so, suffering from total memory loss. They are both in hospital under observation, but their doctors are baffled. Neither 'victim's' family knows about the other 'victim', or they would certainly have put two and two together. As it is, I think you've been very lucky that they haven't done so as yet, nor mentioned your experiment to the doctors apparently."

Stacy said:

  1. "I think I must go back to New York. When we get there, can you take me to my laboratory?"
  2. "I'm going back to Socorro. I need to persuade Jimmy to let me kill and dissect one of the rats."
  3. "I must talk to Susan again. I still need more information from her."
  4. "I don't know what to do. Is there anything more you can tell me?"
