Inside the Inn

The inn would not only provide them with protection from the wolves, but
also with shelter from the elements. The door was not locked, so they
were able to enter with no diffculty. Inside, just enough light came
through the grimy windows to show that each table had a candlestick at
its centre, and luckily the candles were still in place. Fred no longer
had his pack, but eventually - thanks to what he had learnt as a boy when
in the Allarian boy scouts - he was able to strike a light and get the
candles lit.
Looking round, they saw that they were in what must have once been the main bar. From the good condition that it was in, it seem that it - and presumably the town - had only been abandoned very recently. They weren't sure whether that was good or bad. It improved the chance that the women might find some wearable clothes in the staff quarters or in the guest rooms. They might even find some preserved food - salt beef perhaps, or biscuits - that was still edible. On the other hand, it increased the risk that whatever had forced the evacuation of the town might still be around. They searched the inn thoroughly:
