"It was tempting to give you a duplicate of the body that you gave
Astra," the voice continued. "It would have been fitting. But making you
a magnet for human males would hardly have been consistent with our wish
that you should stay out of trouble in future. So you have a plain face
and an unremarkable figure, as well as a low libido. You have the
lifespan of an ordinary human woman. But your new body is aged about
thirty so, with luck, you could have another forty years or more in front
of you. You'll need a new name, since 'Belboz' is clearly masculine; you
can be thinking about that."
Having been a necromancer as well as a dragon, Belboz knew something about raising men and women from the dead, but what had been done to him - now her - went far beyond that. All he had ever been able to do was to produce zombies, their personalities and most of their intelligence and memories having left them. These beings - he was uncertain what species they might be - must be incredibly powerful. As he tried to take it all in and to adjust to his new situation, he remembered something that the voice had said. "You told me that you needed my memories. Which memories, and why do you need them?"
