Why Johnny Can't Read

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 83176

Jasper picks up a damaged edition of the latest MAD magazine. This one didn't have a free giveaway enclosed with it, but it has still been ripped open. Evidentally, someone out there had a dickens of a time trying to figure out Al Jaffee's Fold-In feature for that month.

Leafing through the magazine, Jasper feels unsatisfied, as the realization that MAD magazine is only fun to read when you're a teenager, and when your parents don't like it whenever you buy one and bring it home. He only sees two or three of the artists and writers he remembers from his youth, while frowning whenever coming across some outside advertisements, or a random pop culture reference making light of something that Jasper isn't too familiar with.

Jasper sighs as he reaches the end, and places the MAD back on the shelf. No Fold-In for him this time. No wonder he spends a lot of free time in antique stores and used book shops hunting down old issues from his childhood, right?

  1. Jasper is so disappointed, he starts to weep.
  2. Jasper vows to start his own satiric magazine.
  3. Suddenly, an overweight older man named Roger Kaputnik enters the store.
