Elaine: Ultimate Power?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 82673

Elaine's mind raced. This power! It's incredible! Matthias dosen't deserve to speak, turning on us as he did, turning on ME! He and Adele both. They ought to be put back in stasis, or just eliminated altogether. I don't need them anymore! I'm stronger now, stronger than I've ever been. None can now oppose me, not Adele, not Matthias...not even Minestus!

There was something more behind the power as well. She could feel Belboz's... Presence? Essence? It was hard to define, but as though slipping on the ring had filled her with all of his vast power and experience. 800 years of study and concentration in the dark arts, but now in her young, (or technically, preserved by stasis) healthy, and magically attuned body. For a moment she thought it might be a form of possession, as though that had been the old necromancer's plan all along. That by confronting them, he had actually hoped to be killed, so that his ring could pass from his decrepit quasi-vampiric body to a new one, combining his powers, his influence, his very soul with her own? Impossibe... she thought. My mind is still my own...isn't it?!

There was movement out of the corner of her eye. A rock, well aimed but seeming to move in slow motion. With a barely perceptible flicker of her wrist, she froze the rock in midair, inches from her head.

"Too slow, little girl." Elaine said with a smirk. To Fred, she said "That brat is trying my patience. Keep her under control, sir knight, or there will be unpleasantness for you both."

Fred wrapped his arm around the frightened Exotica, who put her head on his chest and wept. "The princess was maybe...too rash." Fred said diplomatically. Diplomacy wasn't one of his strengths, but he realized he had to play the hand he was dealt. "Please, Elaine, we are still your allies, but are concerned. That ring..."

"Has given me more power than you could possibly imagine!" Elaine shouted, cutting Fred off. "Also, allies? Whatever do I need allies like you for? You are all weak, pathetic fools!"

Astra had positioned herself off to the side, now crouched and ready to strike. Even bespelled as she was, she had regained her composure somewhat. She knew that her immediate restoration had to be put on hold until the threat that Elaine posed could be dealt with. On the other side of the chamber, the muted Matthais stood in defense of Adele, sword drawn. Sigin had seemingly disapperard.

Elaine, meanwhile, looked down at her torn and shortened robe and scoffed. It was not befitting a sorceress of her stature. With a wave of her hand, she recalled the fabric that had been sacrificed to clothe Astra [82130]. The cloth seemed to flow about Astra's body, then the whole of her makeshift outfit fell apart and floated to the center of the room. For good measure, and as punishment for her earlier action, she also stripped Exotica in the same way, even though the latter's outfit had been made entirely from Adele's robe. [82165]

With this material, she magically restored her robe while also changing the color to a deep midnight blue, which she thought contrasted well with her pale skin and blond tresses. Nevermind that it was similar to the color of Belboz's own robe. The excess material, the parts of Adele's robe that had made up the princess' outfits, she put to the flame.

  1. Elaine addressed them all saying "I have wasted enough time in the company of you fools. If you'll excuse me, I have a dragon-mage to slay. To pay back for keeping me a prisoner for 800 years!" There was a bright flash, and then she was gone.
  2. Astra foolishly attempted a strike, Elaine in response turned her into a statue.
  3. Adele, who had awakened but was still feigning sleep, made a move. The rock that Exotica had tossed earlier still was suspened in midair near Elaine's head. Adele caused it to explode.
