"Yes," Elaine replied, "but even the most powerful of necromancers has limits to his power. Some have extended their lives to around two hundred years, but not much more than that. I suppose that Belboz could have made some breakthrough in the black magic arts that would have made it possible, though."

"Could he have put himself in stasis, like the dragon did with us?" Matthias asked.

"I suppose that he could have, but why would he want to?" Adele said. "Perhaps the dragon had put him in stasis for a time, though? That might explain it."

"But why didn't he try to free you once he had the chance?" Fred asked. "Was he too frightened of the dragon?"

"That is what I intend to find out. We were never that close, but even so..."

1. "We should pay him a visit right now and ask him to explain himself," she went on.
2. "But first, are there any more captives that we should try to free?"
3. "If you'd all stop talking," Sigin said irritably, "I will continue. I said that I would explain, you remember, and by that I meant rather more than just telling you that 800 years had passed. But I haven't been able to get a word in edgeways."
