There was a strange interlude in which Stacy studiously read a physics journal and Wu pretended to be absorbed in one of her electronics journals, whilst Zimmermann sat back in his chair and continued to smile. Then, after ten minutes or so, Wu seemed to crack, for she put down her magazine and walked rather too quickly out of the library.

  1. Zimmermann got up immediately afterwards, presumably to check where Wu was going.
  2. Zimmermann remained seated, his smile even more noticeable than before.
  3. Zimmermann said: "That's strange, Dr Jones. Why would you and Dr Wu totally ignore each other like that?"
