The Pain Technician struggled to get up. Although he had been impaled, he was a Master of Pain, and he didn't let it stop him from trying to kill Fred now. His expression was maddening, eyes darting this way and that, searching through the blood in his eyes to get a glimpse of his adversary. Fred began to panic. He hadn't expected this. As Fred stood up, a chilling voice echoed around the arena:
"Well, well, well. If it isn't old Hyrobjin, the ancient Master of Pain. This is quite a surprise. I must admit, I wasn't expecting you here, and in such a....deprived state." Fred couldn't see where the voice was coming from, but both he and the Pain Technician were searching for it. Hyrobjin had an astonished look on his face, as if he were meeting some ancient enemy for the first time in years. The voice spoke again. "Who is your little friend, Hyro? Another 'Student of Pain?' HA!" The voice laughed in mockery directed seemingly at both Hyro and Fred. "Well, let's see which one of you gets out of here alive. Will you fight each other to the death to ensure your own survivals? I think YOU will, Hyro. After all, you spent countless years searching for the Plane of Immortality."
This was too much for poor impaled Hyro. His face turned pale, and he fell backwards, the blood still gushing out from his body. The voice addressed Fred this time. "Well, what have we here? Hmm....your records show you have been on quite the journey since the King ordered you to kill Minestus the Dragon. And I hear you accepted for several reasons...yes...one of which was to restore your family name after the...incident." The Voice laughed in a chilling manner, and Fred was exceedingly dismayed by it. He did not know why. "Your brother. Your brother and his mad quest for fire. The Crater of Wrath that he left in his dying wake. But I'm going to tell you a secret, Fred. Can you keep a secret?"
Fred tries to respond to the voice, but he finds he cannot speak. Instead, he becomes dimly aware that maybe this..."being"...can read minds. So, he thinks of a response to give the Voice:
