Hilda “What’s her story?” the mage asks, gesturing at the nude female form we’d (barely) resisted in throwing into a corner. Hrmph, looks like it’s time for that ‘truth/lie’ scheme we concocted... Myself, I say we should have just snapped this unconscious woman’s neck and be DONE with it. It and this entire business with that d*mn female dragon and her mate, but...it turns out that killing her now and here wouldn’t put us in the best light with this mage. Even though that b*tch deserves to die, it would be counterproductive to my family’s future. We need the mage’s help more than we need her dead now. Later, maybe. Now, no. “Someone who apparently was foolish enough to through her lot with the dragon,” Gilda sneered, looking down at her wounds and not at us. “I for one do not know the whole of her story nor do I care.” A thumping lie if there ever was one! Simply put, we’d almost got caught with our pants down by this unconscious female here at our feet! Long story short? We’d managed to find the hatchlings and subdue them (not without a bit of a fight as witness our burnt outfit and scratches). That took more time than we’d liked but we’d managed what we thought (at some level) the impossible. We’d gotten Nightfall’s children and it had looked like we’d gotten away Scott free. Oh, it had been a hellacious journey back through the caverns but at least we’d not had to deal with any minions of the dragon. Only the occasional cave monster of some such, but we’d done it without much of a problem. . . . Nice to know that our huge, muscle bound bloated bodies were good for SOMETHING. Gods, I’ll be SO very thankful to be an elf when this is said and done... Managed to even grab a bit of booty to help with any “unexpected” expenses now (like say the mage throws us a curve and says he needs more money for “supplies” and “spells components) but we didn’t tarry too long. Didn’t go and search about the lair’s side tunnels and such because while we’d been lucky we’d not known for sure how much more time we had before “momma” came back to check up on her “hatchlings”. But the sudden appearance of that male dragon Nightfall had slain had been a MOST unexpected (and unwelcome) surprise! I think what it had planned on doing was after using whatever teleportation device/magery it had used he’d planned to get the jump on us and kill us. THEN he’d take the hatchlings back and that would have been that. All this just a few dozen steps away from the exit to that blasted caverns and the safe place we would have used that scroll to telelport back to a spot within easy distance back to the mage... Near enough to travel but far enough away that IF the dragoness should have been able to track us wouldn’t have instantly lead up to the mage’s doorstop. He’d have time to vacate the premises or whatever. I’m only guessing that last part but it seems to fit this human’s character (or lack there of). He seems to be the type that while . . .not evil really to be one to look out for himself . . . Not a coward but . . .well, whatever. He’d sold his services to us and as such IS good enough in my book to not think TOO unkindly of him. Kind of wish he’d been there to help in more than a few times in the caves but . . . But whatever magices that female had used to bring her mate back must have bugs in it or something. Some kind of magical hiccup and suddenly a fierce dragon male is suddenly a swooning woman planted herself face down at our feet...
