Nightfall We keep out of range while we discuss how to proceed.
“Well, I must admit that it would have been nice if those memories from our lives before I rightful forms were more . . .substantial,” Hilda mutters, looking back at where the growling (but inexplicably cute) dragon hatchlings are holed up. “It would have been nice to know about the ‘breathing fire right out of the eggshell’ bit. I mean it might have not been common knowledge, but maybe a dragonslayer just might have known it? “Do any of your hazy recollections come up with anything at all, sisters?” A shake of Gilda’s and Hilda’s head pretty much sum it up. Both giantesses had said that beyond that muddily recalled dream of them going through that other dragon’s caverns (either as Astra or Fred) there pretty much was nothing. MY memories of time as human are . . .spotty at best. In some places, anyway. No help there (and wouldn’t have been of help now). The time of it’s usefulness has come and passed. None of their fireside tales had warned them about the fire breathing business and I don’t remember anything about it!! Which leaves us in a bind... “Well I don’t suppose you could try singing a lullaby to them like you probably used to do before the scales and everything?” . . . Later. . . It’s all a ploy by us, you know... “So you sang to the hatchlings and it worked?!” the mage blinks, staring down at me as I coo softly to my wayward children. They don’t respond to my touch, being too deeply asleep due to the potion force fed them. “I mean . . .” “Do these scratches and slightly singed clothing LOOK like it worked?” growled one of the my giant sized sisters (Hilda), bandaging up again a slash on Gilda’s arm after changing out the old one. “No, it didn‘t work like that,” I say as the mage drolly. “Of course it did not work like that. I only did it because I was nimble enough as an elf to avoid their flames after the novelty of my elfin voice singing wore off. I was a distraction, keeping the little one’s attention focused on me with my voice and such long enough for my sisters to grab them.” But not enough that they didn’t get a few injuries, I admit to myself. I'd say that the old elfin saying: "If it is stupid but it works then it's not stupid" would apply but still! If only we could have done this while they’d been asleep...if we could have been IN and out of there without wasting so much time. I loath lieing... Acting like things aren’t as dicey still as they are . . . Well, it’s done and we’re here. If I was a religious elf (hah!) I’d call it something of a miracle. Instead, I’ll just put it down as having more luck than we have a right to and call it a day!! We had to trudge through the caverns with the little (or not so little) ones in tow and boy wasn’t THAT an adventure... Especially when we had “momma” show up unexpectedly. IF we hadn’t thought quickly and been lucky, then we’d not have had been able to get our hands on our “pass” out of there. . . . Who’s . . .morphed into an exact copy of what I looked like before I came into my rightful form.
