The shopkeeper seemed quite unfazed by his unusual customers, and let them browse. They looked over his stock, which didn't take long. In this fairly peaceful mining town, most people only wanted daggers or quarterstaffs, which wouldn't make much impression on the dragon. In fact there was only one top quality weapon in the place, a really nice sword that Fred, who needed a weapon having given his own sword to Astra, immediately fell in love with. The only problem was that it cost 95 gold pieces, and on checking in his pack he found that he only had 103.

"If I buy this sword," he said, "then we aren't going to be able to afford very much in the way of clothes for you. What should I do?" Astra replied:

  1. "You need a good weapon when hunting a dragon. Buy it."
  2. "I'm sorry, Fred, but I think you should buy a cheaper weapon."
  3. "I'll give you your sword back, and - if you're willing - you can buy me that spear over there for 45 gold pieces."
  4. "Haggle, and see if the shopkeeper will reduce the price."
