Astra was brave, but she wasn't stupid. The odds were that, whoever
or whatever this creature was, it worked for the dragon. She didn't need
to be
able to see its face to know that it would be a formidable adversary
if it came to a fight. Thus a truthful answer seemed inadvisable.
"We - er- were just passing by," she said. "We got lost in the caverns, and found ourselves at the bottom of the staircase, and this seemed to be the only way to go. Please might we pass?"
