Susan's mother Relents

Stacy gave Melanie a grateful look. Then Jimmy spoke up: "Yes, Mom,
please let her go in. I know she's sorry. "Well, all right," said
Susan's mother somewhat grudgingly. "Let me and Jimmy go in first,
and I'll send Jimmy out to fetch you after we've warned her that
you're here. But if you upset her, then..."
She didn't finish the sentence, but from the look in her eyes Stacy
felt that she would be quite happy to tear her limb from limb.
Stacy spent a tense five minutes, fearing that Susan's mother would change her mind or that Susan might refuse to see her, until she saw Jimmy appear in the doorway and beckon to her. She walked in. The girl in the bed who must be Susan looked very pale, as if all the colour had been washed out of her, but apart from that there was no obvious sign of her injuries.
