Exotica herself did not realize quite how badly strained she was after
depleting herself with the clothing spell, inadvertedly made much more
powerful than she could handle, removing, changing and rearranging clothes
all over the planet according to some mystic pattern of reality’s
multidimensional web. Her thoughts were swirling from the effort, but she
noticed that she was again naked and concluded that her spell had been
successful. In her dazed state she had quite forgotten her previous
hesitations, both about bringing Fred back into her own mission as well as
about her ability to affect someone whom she assumed had travelled back in
time 1500 years. At present she could only keep on to one thought at the
time, and now that was to acquiesce to Velus’ demand about helping Fred. Andrew, who had just realized that he was wearing nothing but a tattered pink tutu much to small for him (though he didn’t remember it, the tutu had been his favourite piece of clothing as a toddler), was too slow to prevent Exotica from invoking another spell. The house shook and rumbled as if in an earthquake. Fred lay sprawled on hard stone. He had broken both legs in his fall into this cavern under the D’Honnaire castle ruins and he ached all over his body. He had lost his sword as well in the fall, and had no other weapons to defend himself with. The nightmarish creature that stood in front of him was barely outlined by the weak light emitted from the hole through which they both had fallen. It hefted its sword in one inhuman arm. Fred did not bother with any undignified attempts of escape. All he could do was face his death with honour. The creature hissed and dribbled as it spoke. “Through countless ages we have searched for you. *gurgle* Now that you are found we will excerpt revenge in the name of our master. *splutter* There will be no Grrkyrffundalienum to save you this time!” [20313] The thing laughed without mirth and swung its sword in a wide arc down to cleave Fred’s head in two. Just then a might rumble like thunder and a sound like countless voices crying out in fear roared far above. The sword bounced away with a clang. To both his and the creatures surprise Fred’s light armour, suitable for travelling, had just been replaced by heavy plate armour. The creature spitted in anger. “You are no mage! *gurgle!* What is this trickery? *splutter!* Do not think that is enough to save you!” The creature took a step back. It trembled and shook in anger and it’s body started to bulge and grow, spouting taloned arms and slimy tentacles from seemingly random places. There was another rumble like thunder, much closer this time, and a rain of dirt and stone from above. Both Fred and the creature looked up to see a house precariously dangling in the web of tree roots in the mighty caverns ceiling. It dangled up and down… up and down… and crashed noisily down over the nightmarish creature. Miraculously the house still stood upright, though only barely. The whole structure leaned to one side and the roof had fallen in completely. Luckily for those inside no one had been on the upper floor. Fred found himself lying right at the doorstep of the D’Honnaire family’s house. The front door creaked and slowly opened.
