Fred frowned. “I don’t really know…”

*Flashback to Manathus handing over the gadget to Fred*

“This is an enchanted encased gyrator with specially crafted empathetic feelers that will let it harmonize with the rhythm of an aura-vitae, thereby composing a false presence which will deceive most lower spirits as to the bodily focus and soul of a certain subject in question.”

Fred scratched his head. “Fair enough... But what does it do?”

Manathus put a hand over his face in a gesture of exasperation. “Just place it so that it is close to the source of the spirit that has your friend trapped and read the words on its side.”

*Now*

“… but he said it would help,” Fred finished. He placed the gadget on the tile with the inscription and bent down to read the words as Manathus had instructed..

1. He reads the words. The gadget begins humming.
2. "Hold up" says Astra. "I don't want to use that thing unless I know exactly what it does."
