Water Breather

Some unknown time later, Astra regained consciousness, surprised to find that she was still alive. She was lying on her back on what felt like sand. She realised that she must somehow have lost her clothes, or she wouldn't have been able to feel the sand. She opened her mouth, and took a deep breath of... water?!

Only then did she open her eyes. She was still underwater, but that did not seem to be inconveniencing her. One of the nymphs was sitting beside her. Before, Astra had found it hard to see the nymphs clearly, but now she found that she could see this one with perfect clarity. She was tall, slim, very pale skinned, had long dark hair floating about her head, and was very beautiful. She wore a thin, white, floaty gown.

"You have joined us in our underwater realm," the nymph said. in almost the same words that had been spoken to Astra earlier. "You are one of us now, a naiad and water breather, and shall stay here with us for all eternity."

1. "Yes," Astra said, pushing a long, floating strand of red hair out of her face. All the will seemed to have been drained out of her, and she felt unable to resist.
2. "Never!" Astra said.
3. The naiad went on: "But for injuring my sisters you must pay a price."
