Pomona and Valinda

"Nendi."

"Pleased to meet you, Nendi," said the other. "I am Valinda, and this is Pomona." Then she went quiet again and let her friend, enemy or whatever she was, continue.

"It's very simple, Nendi," Pomona continued after her introduction. "Val and I are not fighting for real, we are just acting out a historical duel that happened long ago. I lose, by the way. The reason we don't look quite like the tapestry is just because we haven't got our makeup on yet."

"I see," said Nendi. "But why did you drag me in here to tell me?"

"We don't discuss our trade under the open sky," Valinda sighed. "It displeases the Goddess."

"Oh, I'm sorry," Nendi gasped. "I won't have to be punished, will I?"

"Don't think so. After all, thanks to our swift action neither of us really broke the rules."

"Thank... Goddess! But what do you think of my story then?"

Pomona shrugged. "Don't think it would make a good play. We hear a lot in our trade. As strange stories go, I'd rate yours... six and a half."

"No more than five from me," Valinda shrugged.

1. Nendi has more questions.
2. They go their separate ways.
3. Nendi follows the actresses to the temple.
4. Curiosity getting the better of them, they enter the main part of the building.
5. They are momentarily distracted by discovering some illegal contraband in the storeroom.
6. Totally at random, a man with a flowing cloak and a pointed hat with a misspelled word on it runs through the room screaming something about how he's going to die.
