All Astra could think of was that the author might have been hinting that
she would find help on the opposite bank. Also the antics of Fred and
Calloway were beginning to annoy her, and in crossing the river she might
leave them behind. So she dived into the water and set out for the far
side with a powerful crawl stroke.
"Oh dear," Calloway said. "I can't follow her unless we can find a bridge or a boat. Immersion in water would short all my circuitry." "Woof," Fred opined. As Astra was swimming across the river, the first intimation that she might be in danger came when her clothes became invisible.
