Fred's Decision

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 72517

Fred suspected that Jan's opposition was largely due to a typical unlearned person's superstitious fear of magic, so he was inclined to discount it. As an Allarian, he had had a similar distrust of mages himself, but his growing friendship with Sartoma had done much to erode that. He had learned that, apart from their ability with magic, mages were no different from anyone else: some of them were good people and could be trusted, some were bad and could not.

As to Checkers' opinion, he had noticed that she tended to be suspicious of all non-Gliders until she came to know them well. So eventually he decided that their little group should accompany Lucius. As well as the reasons that Sartoma had put forward, having someone with them who knew the road would be an advantage. It wasn't that he feared getting lost, but Lucius should know things like the best inns to stay at overnight. Having such a well known mage with them would also ensure that no-one tried to overcharge them.

Jan was clearly unhappy, but he did not try to argue. Checkers concealed her feelings much better, though Fred suspected that she too was disappointed.

  1. So a couple of hours later, they and Lucius set out together for Colonia Gallia.
