Astra was startled, but she tried not to show it. She would try to find
out what this was about without revealing her total ignorance. "I'm
always on time," she said. "So what do you have to say to me?"

"Don't play the innocent with me. You already know what my proposition has to be, and I know that you know. It only remains to find out whether you will accept it."

"Actions speak louder than words," he said, producing a gun. "You wouldn't dare use that on a crowded beach," Astra said. (She knew about guns now as well as about bikinis and tequilas.)

"The wombat of my aunt is under the hatstand." It was clearly a coded message of some kind, but it meant nothing to Astra.
