"Damn and double damn!" muttered Lord Frederigo D'Honaire to himself as he started awake in
his sweat-drenched bed. Three times now he had tried to go to sleep and three times he had
been awakend by bizarre and incomprehensible nightmares. Soon, too soon, it would be dawn
and he would have to leave his father's castle. No doubt that was why he had the nightmares. For
tomorrow would be the Feast of St. Stephen, the day after Christmas. And tomorrow would be
the day that he, having passed his final test and completed his knightly training, would set out
on his first quest as a Knight of the Realm.
Once again he returned to sleep, imagining himself floating a restful sea and trying to forget all his fear and excitement. Soon sleep crept over him again and he once more dreamed of wizards and monsters and demons and strange armies fighting incomprehensible battles in other worlds...
