Stacy and the others sat down to wait in a nervous, impatient silence for
Susan's mother to emerge. After about fifteen minutes or so, Stacy saw a
pleasant-looking woman in her late fifties emerge from a doorway and walk
over to talk to the nurse. From where she was sitting, Stacy couldn't hear
what they were saying, but she saw the nurse pointing at them. A moment
later, the woman -- presumably Susan's mother -- came over to them.
