"No, but you won't have to. Most of the flunkeys who are searching for you won't have seen you in the flesh but will be going by a description of you given by someone who was at the dinner. If your clothes don't match the description, then they won't look at you twice. I'll choose something fairly plain, so that it's not too obviously Alex's."

"You wear trousers and shirts a lot of the time, don't you? Couldn't I wear some of your own stuff."

"You may not have noticed, but I curve in places where you do not. I'm a lot taller than you too. My clothes wouldn't fit you at all well. Alex's room is next to mine. I'll only be five minutes."

Afterwards, Astra wondered what she had been thinking of, to leave Robert on his own in her room. When she returned, with an armful of Alex's clothes:

1. There was no sign of Robert, and her room had been stripped almost bare. How had he managed to take so much stuff? There was no doubt about it, as a thief the man was something of a genius.
2. The door had been locked from the inside.
3. Robert said: "I've naturally been looking through all your correspondence. There was one letter in particular that I'm sure you wouldn't want your mother to learn about."
