Stacy realised that she was hungry. The clock on the bedside table said it
was just
after 9pm. She had certainly not eaten since finding herself in the subway
car in
early afternoon, possibly not since her meal in the doughnut shop some
hours before that.
Leaving her room, she saw that to the left was only a short run of corridor, with more doors to what looked like further bedrooms. She wondered if anyone else was here under duress, or if she was the only one. The canteen must be to the right, therefore. Indeed, she hadn't gone very far before she spotted a sign saying "Canteen", with an arrow beneath it. With the help of further signs at junctions of corridors, she soon found her way to her destination. Her only slight worry was whether she would be able to find her way back to her bedroom. As she walked, a slight throbbing had begun in her buttock, telling her that the local anaesthetic had worn off. The canteen was quite well appointed. As well as a food counter, it also had a self-service bar stocked with a wide range of alcoholic and soft drinks. Stacy realised that she wouldn't be expected to pay for anything, which since she had no money was just as well.
