Gilda and Hilda exchange startled glances. They do not know much about
elves, not even that there are different species, and they hadn't expected
the elfin ex-dragonslayer to appear quite so primitive. And what was that
strange, and rather unsettling, howl about?
The dragoness can guess, but she isn't about to enlighten the Frost Giants. "It would be best for the three of you to leave," she tells them. "There is nothing to keep you here." "You said that she would be released into our care," Gilda says. "It looks as though she will need more caring for than we had expected. We've made an agreement and will stand by it. We won't abandon her. But is she even sane?" The dragoness does not know and does not care. She gives the draconic equivalent of a shrug. "The period of adjustment is bound to be hard for her. She'll probably settle down in a day or two." Whilst they have been talking, the wood elf has ceased howling and is now sobbing quietly. Hilda tries to take her in her arms to comfort her, but is pushed away. Of course she is far stronger than the elf, but it would clearly be counterproductive to use force, so she gives up the attempt. "As I was saying," the dragoness resumes, "it is time that you were away.
