Astra was startled by Sabok's response. She had assumed that being a simple minstrel, he would be more than happy tell her a story. She did not expect him to be defensive.

But she maintained her self-control. That attitude could be a sign of weakness - perhaps he was in some sort of trouble. Perhaps the Hespaniards were more reserved and formal than Aqualarians. Or, being reared in the patriarchal Hespaniard society, he simply did not expect a woman to inquire into something personal like that. Or, beneath the genial exterior, he was far more wary than he let on. It was time to get more information.
