She bought ISPs? For merging into a growing ISP of her own? Or perhaps she was just an expert negotiator for people who bought ISPs? Please don't let me be the head of AOL, she thought. I couldn't stand the shame. How frustrating this was. She knew what AOL was, but - apart from her first name - she didn't know who she was.

"Earth to Stacy," said the man, and she realised that she hadn't answered his question. "Yes, dozens," she said, trying to sound as if she knew what she was talking about. "But I think I'll let you take the lead on this one, and keep more in the background myself. It will be good experience for you."

Her companion appeared...

  1. Pleased. "Thanks for giving me this opportunity," he said. "I won't let you down."
  2. Outraged. "I hire you at an exorbitant rate to do all the negotiating for me, and then you want ME to do all the work?"
  3. Confused.
