~~whew!~~ thought Stacy. ~~that was a close one~~
She continued driving westwards down US 60 but she kept her eye on the speedometer and promised herself she wouldn't be speeding any time soon. As she came to the junction of US 60 and NM 52 she put together in her head what she knew about the VLA. It was one of the world's premier astronomical radio observatories and consisted of 27 antennas arranged in a huge Y pattern up to 36km across. ~~that's roughly one and a half times the size of Washington, DC~~ mused Stacy. ~~damn that's weird! I can remember the size of Washington, DC but still don't know my own last name!~~ She continued her pondering and recalled that the observatory was approved by the U.S. Congress way back in 1972 and finally finished in January 1981. The total cost of the project was some $78,578,000. As she turned south down NM 52 her stream-of-consciousness meanderings brought her to remember that her destination was 34 04' 43.497" north latitude by 107 37' 03.819" west longitude and 2124 meters in elevation. Why she recalled that was a mystery to her and she shook herself, physically, trying to rid herself of the coordinates. ~~this is getting too spooky, why do I know this stuff?~~ She slowed her vehicle as she drove south, the closer she got to the VLA the more she seemed to be remembering, but it still made little sense to her. ~~why do I get the feeling I'm in the Twilight Zone or something?~~ she thought.
