"I'm immortal."

"I'm immortal." Astra told me.

I paused. I held the dagger in my hand. I needed to be sure that she was not lying to me, so I decided to test her truthfulness. Swiftly, I brought the dagger up, and before Astra could say anything, I stabbed it into her neck. She flailed about wildly, swinging her arms about like she was swatting flies with them, but eventually, she fell, and closed her eyes, silent.

"A shame." I whispered. I had thought she would tell me the truth. I sighed and pulled the knife from her neck; but, as soon as the knife was removed, she opened her eyes, gasping for air.

"Why would you do that?" She asked, her eyes darting about the room.

"You claimed to be immortal. I tested whether your claims were true. They were." I explained.

"... Is that what you came to see? If I'm immortal?" She asked.
"That and to depose you, of course." I explained, seeing no point in lying to her.
"Excuse me?"
"You are excused."
"Just how do you plan on doing that?"
"Well, I was thinking of killing you, but apparently I cannot do that."
"We are both immortal, dragon. Neither of us could win in a fight." She told me, as if she was giving a lecture.

She paused to look me in the eye. "Why would you would to dethrone me anyway?"

"Isn't it obvious?", I told her, grinning, "I wouldn't mind being ruler of the world myself.

"So... since you want to get rid of me, I suppose that means you're going to kidnap me?" She asked again, but that was no longer my plan.

"Too much bother. I might as well just stab you again, as it appears you are dead as long as the knife is still in your body."

I expected her to be overcome with fear at that moment, but she looked as defiant as ever then. "Ah, but you are just as immortal as me. I could to the same to you!" And as she said 'you', she leapt up in an amazingly acrobatic fashion and attempted to grab the knife from my hand.

1. She was unsuccessful.
2. She was successful.
