A wonderful meal

Susan is like a woman possessed as she prepares to entertain Alfred. She works away to make the best meal that she knows how to and is also very meticulous in laying the most fantastic table and surroundings that she can.

With everything in hand Susan finally makes herself look beautiful, not the hardest of tasks, and slips into her fanciest dress. Her timing is impeccable and just then Alfred arrives.

The handsome young man hands Susan a large bouquet of flowers and gives her a small peck on the cheek, which makes her blush. He is hugely complimentary about her looks, which is rather confusing for our former knight, but greatly appreciated by her feminine side.

The whole evening is a huge success and Susan is really excited about how it has gone, and expectant as to what her reward will be. She is rather surprised and a bit disappointed when Alfred thanks her for the wonderful meal and, with only another exceedingly brief peck on the cheek, said goodnight to her and left her standing bereft in the doorway. She wondered if she had done something wrong

As the young man disappeared into the distance Susan thought . . .

1. she had wanted so much more
2. perhaps it was just as well it ended there
3. she must invite him back soon
4. she wouldn't give him another chance
