Nervously, Barnabas and the two Frost Giants followed Braveheart out of
the mage's house. If Barnabas was truly the transformed mage, as now
seemed almost certain, then keeping close to him might provide them with
some protection from any magical "nasties".
Before they had gone very far, Barnabas had a good idea. If there were any magical booby traps that might be set off by trying to remove the package from the premises, then they ought to be less likely to be triggered if Braveheart was carrying it. (Sophisticated magic had a good chance of seeing beneath the surface and realising that Braveheart was the same entity as the mage, and hence entitled to take away the package.) So he tied a loop of rope to the package and then hung it around Braveheart's neck.
