Rieka Ayanami Quatermain "In fact, the back cover of the first book pretty much summed it up when it challenged the reader to 'imagine a Neon Genesis Evangelion in which dating the right girl is more important than saving the world....'," Tabris goes onto explain, taking on a more serious tone. Out of sight and earshot of others, naturally. Of course, he's doing the explaining while we are out of hearing range and sight of others! We'd only went back to make SURE nobody went and "rolled" this world's version of . . . me and my fellow EVA pilots. My version of Tokyo 3--while not a den of thieves--has those within who will take from those who has what they themselves do not. Or wish to obtain more of what they want or need and may not be too shy on using force to obtain it. While unconscious the natives couldn't have resisted but still I did not wish to see them come to any grief. Neither did (mostly) of the others: the G-Man had suggested that they probably would be safe enough where they lay. That and wouldn't we be pushing our luck even with magical disguises? We did want to remain undetected from the locals for the moment, for now at least. Useful intelligence data is always a plus in any operation. Should know such things, given what my profession as pilot for a 40 meter tall robot! If the Commander had been more forthcoming on what we would have been facing (up to and including the 16th Angel), a lot of pain and suffering could have been avoided!! The G-Man, seeing Rei's point, conceded. It was risky, but worth the risk. Which is good, considering that that vague but persistent aura of fear he induces in others (an ability somewhat akin to what dragons produce) actually lowered from what it had been before to something akin to a whisper. . . . Believe that the G-Man is now somewhat more comfortable with my big sister in charge by that display IF that aura of his True all that but what had been worrisome here was the fact that these people who we put under actually exist on this world! Why? Well, the answer is really simple. If they exist here it argues that this world is a close analogy of MY world, with perhaps NERVE and SEELE in the picture. Maybe even a similar "misunderstanding" that we'd only recently neutralized back home (did you know that the JSSDF actually had standing orders to eliminate me and my fellow EVA pilots?!). Granted, the stakes were high but still . . . Meaning that IF by some small chance we run afoul of these people for whatever reason, I and the others had been worried we might have a bunch of assassins on our tail. It was a remote chance but after everything else it wasn't a paranoid worry. As it turns out from this and other things (i.e Dr. Akagi and friends doing a bit of snooping on the 'Net) this world is only slightly similar to my sad little world. Many of the key players are here but many are also missing. No mention of SEELE can be found anywhere. Granted, it was a quick search Akagi did but then again even back home SEELE had some presence (it had been officially part of the UN as a council back home). Dark rumors that did not even approach the reality of that loathsome cult at the very least should have popped up at some of the more . . .er . . . paranoid corners of the 'Net if it existed, I suppose. Not conclusive but a pretty good sign, that silence. No Second Impact and lame cover stories about a small meteor traveling at a fraction of the speed of light (traveling from which outside solar system, I wonder) being responsible for destroying Antarctica. That's good and well, but there was one things existence that throws Second Impact into the "At least not yet" catagory: NERV exists! Meaning those people who ran into me and my sisters actually WERE EVA pilots. Or at least had been slated to become EVA pilots, according to Tabris. Actually as an aside for a moment, he has a LOT to say about the series he believes this world appears to reflect. One should have to wonder (and perhaps worry) about how MUCH devotion Tabris here has put into his . . . devotion. I mean he is an absolute fanatic with the entire Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise, and not just the "main branch" either (as witness this spinoff thread he'd told us about). Then again, he HAD told us that he'd taken it up to learn what was his actual "destiny" SEELE had planned for him and the rest of humanity (and not the lies and half truths he'd been brought up on). That and in the course of masquerading as a person who'd been so fanatical in his "Neon Genesis" devotion as to undergo plastic surgery to appear as one of the characters he . . . .got sucked in and the charade became the reality. He IS a Neon Genesis fanatic and an unrepentant one at that. Do hope that he listens to Rei and refrains from imbibing in watching his private collection on his PDA while we are here, in a magic rich enviroment. The psychic backlash would be . . . painful for him. That or the experience would be such a "rock concert through the brain" as to be just out and out so mind bending as it gives me the chills. And since we've gone off on a small tangent, let me continue the trend. Let me tell you something. I and my sisters got off VERY lucky with our own life changing experience with "rock concerts" (i.e. the flood of emotions and experiences we both got). It did nothing but help us fill in the missing parts of our selves, making us whole. But it could have gone so very wrong. ... Anyway, back to the differences and similarities. Gaining access into this world's NERV HQ, Dr. Akagi does find some disturbing things, though. There ARE . . . or were Angels predicted to attack really soon. Thus this NERV's existence came about. Another difference (and a major one) is while NERV has it's EVA units (or HAD them. . . more in a moment there) the materials and process used to make them work appears to be different. According to a somewhat surprised Dr. Akagi is that the EVAs didn't have to have the same thing that had befallen me (partially) and the mother's of my fellow EVA pilots. This world's EVAs had not required a human soul to be sucked into their cores to operate. That was what Dr. Akagi and the G-Man are able to ascertain from log entries made by this world's Dr. Akagi.... Not that they are operating right now, IF the latest frantic entries are any indication. The same thing that happened to my world's EVAs has happened to this world's EVAs as well. That would probably explain just why the base directory Akagi dug up for NERV listed a Yui Akari. . . . There are a lot of other things--similarities and differences--that come up but those are the highlights. Whatever the case I really do NOT want to get involved in this world's problems since it appears that . . . While serious problems abound here (i.e. NERV's bound to be frantic with these latest developments to their EVAs), there is not anything actually threatening on the scale of Third (or . . . Second) Impact. You see, if the EVAs (basically heavily modified clones of the Angels Lilith and Adam) are kaput . . . then stands to reason that the Angels from THIS place are themselves (the Neon Genesis versions) also out of the picture for the same reasons as mine are out of the picture. The physics of this reality cannot tolerate them, basically. . . . Hm, I am sure that some would argue that it's more due to various Rules and Agents having an intense dislike for Neon Genesis Angels but that's not open for discussion right now, ne?
