Fred blinked in disbelief. Seconds ago he had been ready to throw away
his life to fulfill his duty as a knight. Now just as unexpectedly as
they had come, all the orcs were dead. The mercenary sisters he had
hired stood victorious among the corpses of the humanoid dragonspawn. How
could they have moved so fast? "Ha! What do you think now, Sir Fred?" Juno laughed. "You've only killed one orc, while we three handled five. Do you still consider us amateurs?" "This is horrid," Persephone said, apparently on the verge of tears. "Enough chatter," Diana commanded. "We have to assist the injured." "Where the hell is the town guard?" Fred wondered, glancing out the window. Far away across the village, the tower of the town's guard was on fire. Fred heard more screams and the clang of steel on steel, though he couldnt see what was going on. "It must be a major orcish offensive!" Fred said. "They certainly are," Juno smirked. Fred ran to the window on the other side of the bar, where his worst fears were confirmed. Orcs were coming up the hillside by the dozens, some astride hellwolves, others wheeling forward nasty looking siege engines. Far off in the distance, he heard the keening wail of daemastodons, and heard the cry of cave drakes overhead. "The Dragon's army!" Fred gasped, his blood running cold. "He's finally making his move! Someone has to warn the King!"
