The Dragon Enters

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 67703

A magnificent roar was heard, and flying in through the wide entrance was the great red dragon that had been terrorizing Allaria and its neighbouring lands for years. The captives moved to give the dragon space to land. The dragon's dark, cold eyes stared at the three adventurers for almost a minute, before saying anything.

"So my friends are trying to escape? Don't you like it here?" He said, calmly, but everyone in the room could see he was angry. The captives didn't say anything. "I give you a place to stay, food, entertainment... and you want to leave? Why?"

The big, burly captive was the first to speak; "Because we want to go out into the world! Go back to the city. Your cave is a nice place, but... we want to leave. It's not like you need us here anyway!"

The dragon's calm expression turned to a frown. "Everyone needs company, Derek," The Dragon said, saying what was apparently the name of the burly captive, "I have lived for over 1,000 years... and I am lonely. I have read every book in the grand library... yes, it's true, there is a library past the Master Bedroom, but I didn't tell you because its not like any of you can read anyway..." The Dragon looked sad as he spoke. "I can never die... I can live forever... well, that is, of course, unless someone-" The dragon stopped the sentence when he remembered Fred and Astra were in the room. He turned to them.

"Well? Unless what?" Fred asked.

The Dragon grinned this time, showing his sharp yellow teeth. "Unless I ever have I child... then that child would take my immortality and you could be able to kill me. But as I am the last of the great red dragons, it is never going to happen."

Fred thought about this for a moment. The Dragon could be making this all up, and he could be as mortal as any creature. "I suppose the reason you terrorize villages is for food, yes?"

"Indeed. I eat what I need to satisfy my hunger, and then the survivors become my captives. It seems the more villages I destroy, the more knights come to kill me, which is why I have so many knights in my dungeon. I eat them. And if I ever run out of knights, then I go out and attack another village."

"So, if you are immortal, why do you need to eat? If you are immortal, then doesn't that mean you can't starve to death?" Fred asked, using his brains for once.

"Exactly. But just because I am immortal doesn't mean I can't feel pain. I eat to get rid of the rumblings in my belly." The Dragon explained. He eyed the three heroes once again, "Hmm. How did you escape, Velus? Is there some tiny crack in the wall that only someone the size of a dog can fit through?"

Velus didn't say anything. He was a dog, after all.

"And Princess Astra... I see you were freed. By this newcomer who asks so many questions. Tell me your name, knight."

"Lord Fredrigo D'Honaire of Allaria!" Fred said loudly and proudly.

"Ah. Thank you. I will have to send an apology letter to your family." The Dragon mused.

"Agology? For what?"

"Killing you." The dragon said grinning madly, and let out a fiery blast from his mouth at Fred.

  1. The blast hit Fred and incinerated him to bits.
  2. But before it could hit him, Astra jumped into the way of the blast, and saved Fred's life, with the price of her own.
