Soon all was silence apart from Josh's muffled sobs and Lots complaining that Astra's yelling would bring on a migraine attack. "Right," Astra said, "now that you're all listening, I will tell you my plan. We will go..." She paused for dramatic effect, before continuing: "...sideways."

"But we can't," Scott protested. "Everyone knows that from the Staircase Room you can only go up or down."

"You're the one with the Phobos Phaser," Astra said. "Hasn't it occurred to you to blast a hole in the wall?"

  1. "Er, no."
  2. "Yes, but it doesn't do anything. It's only a toy from a packet of cereal. See." He fired the phaser at the wall. Sure enough, nothing happened.
