"Captain's log, year 2526. This is the Bartholamew Jans, acting captain of the United Conglomerate Ship 'Behemoth'. We have one thousand and eighteen people on board. 200 of them are innocent civilians caught in various areas of the ship when we were, well, we don't know what happened. Head Engineer Michaels reports the flux engines operating at unheard of levels. We can slow down, we can launch shuttles but we will be traveling at one fourth the speed of light for the next seventy years at least. We have most of the crew working out why this is happening but... I should be more clear. Exactly one week ago this incident happened. We cleared out of known space before we slowed down. Now I fear this ship will be traveling forever. My first officer, Lt. Catters suggests we fill up all the shuttles and head down to a habitable planet before we launch ourselves out of the solar system."
And so it is done. Most of the civillians go for the colony option. In the end, 615 men and women remain on board.
