The other customer had been watching with interest as Dan and Stacy had had a whispered conversation and Dan had looked through the phonebook. When Stacy returned to her seat to wait for Dan to finish his shift, he asked her: "What was all that about? And you never did answer my question about whether you had any new leads." "No, no new leads, I'm afraid," Stacy said. "As for the conversation, I had the name and phone number for someone I need to contact in connection with the story, but no address, and Dan was just helping me by looking up the address." "Oh, I see," said the man. Stacy was relieved when he finished his doughnut soon afterwards, and got up and left. Dan's replacement turned up before long, and Dan and Stacy got into his car for the short drive to the K-NEWS studio. Even for New York, the traffic was unusually bad, and what should have been a fifteen minute journey took fortyfive, but eventually they got there. "Want me to go in with you?" asked Dan. "Thanks, but I'm a big girl now. But I really do appreciate all your help." And she gave him a peck on the cheek before getting out of the car. "Aw, it was nothing," said Dan, blushing, before pulling away from the kerb. Stacy entered the foyer, and was greeted by a receptionist, who said:
